As I have travel the recovery road I have had 2 specific goals I would really like to achieve. I am not sure whether my recovery is going to lead to me being a nurse again or not. If not, I can still make a difference.
I would like to start a support group for Amyloidosis patients and second I would like to arrange education for our local physicians about Amyloidosis. I still don't have a clue how to achieve the first goal BUT I contacted the Logan Regional Hospital person over CME for the physicians and she is going to speak with the physician in charge of education and see if there is any interest in learning more about Amyloidosis. I asked her to please tell him I had contacted the hospital, and that I was a nurse who had worked there over 25 years. She was rather surprised I would let out my name. I told her I would yell it from the roof tops if I could somehow help another person get early diagnosis of this disease. Early diagnosis, before it goes to more than 1 organ, gives a much better % chance of survival. I would ask anyone who reads this to please add a little prayer that the physicians will be interested. I have already got the Medical Director over Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant at LDS hospital willing to come and speak to them.
I am thinking to learn how to start a support group, I should attend a support group and ask the leaders questions. I am also going to pick up a brochure about the Multiple Myleoma and Leukemia support group at the end of the month when I go for another appointment with the bone marrow team. If anyone has any ideas, please leave comments. I would LOVE it!
Improvements in my health are coming slowly. I continue to have lots of back pain and upper leg pain, but not the kind that make your knees drop you and bring tears to your eyes; just pain. I look back and just 4 months ago I was in the hospital trying to die and now I am able to drive around town and shop in short periods. I have gained alot of my independence back. I am truly blessed.
